The arrival of the Magi clues us in as readers that this story of the birth of a child is of global significance.
But not just global significance: the cosmos has moved to announce the birth of this child.
Previous visitors from the east included the Assyrians, Babylonians and Persians – all conquering armies who enslaved and exiled God’s people. But these visitors come to worship.
But their journey, and their determination to meet this newborn king, pales into insignificance when compared to the journey this newborn king had made so that they might meet him.
Christ comes to us today, his invitation open to all. God has moved heaven and earth that we might meet God and know him through his son Jesus. Let’s not miss the opportunity to meet with him today.
