Revelation 1:7-8

‘Look, he is coming with the clouds,’

    and ‘every eye will see him,

even those who pierced him’;

    and all peoples on earth
‘will mourn because of him.’

So shall it be! Amen. (NIV UK)

In contrast to Jesus’ ascension – witnessed by that small group of apostles – the return of Jesus, writes John in Revelation, will be seen by all: “every eye will see him”.

For those of us who believe in Christ, this will be the most wonderful moment. But for those who opposed and denied Christ it will be a time of mourning. Given this, how vital it is that we tell others about Jesus?

God speaks: God is eternal – “who is, and who was, and who is to come” – and Almighty. God is at work in all eternity to bring his plans and purposes about: the wonderful promise of a new heavens and a new earth, of a world made new, of tears wiped from our eyes all because of Jesus. God is working to bring this about today, with his mighty power.

Having spent these past weeks reflecting on the birth of Jesus, it is right, as we approach the end of another year and the beginning of a new year to encourage one another with the wonderful truth that Jesus is coming back!

PRAYER

Almighty and Eternal God, we praise you today. We thank you for sending Jesus. And we thank you that one day soon, Jesus will return. We thank you for your grace to us, that you have called us to yourself and that one day we will see you face to face. Help us today to make you known to others, that they too might share in the joy of your return. Amen
